FEBRUARY                                                           2026

DEVOTION
A Heart for Giving
By Audrey Kirt
With the first two months of 2026 almost over, we all know that God is already planning a ministry for Bethel Baptist Church in 2026. As I’ve been reading through the Bible starting in Genesis, God has been teaching me so much about His character and how to serve Him better.

Much of the book of Exodus details God’s plan for the newly freed Israelite people, down to the colors of the ceremonial outfit of the priests and specific ornaments that should be in the tabernacle. God had a specific plan for His people who were newly free from Egypt and He has a plan for those in His modern church.

After Moses explains to the people all of God's plans, everyone gets to work: Exodus 35:2– “The children of Israel brought a willing offering unto the LORD, every man and woman, whose heart made them willing to bring for all manner of work, which the LORD had commanded to be made by the hand of Moses.”

All the people that were willing and whose heart led them to contribute made it possible to build and create everything God had planned. I pray that God would give me a heart for ministry and giving as He did for the Hebrews.

The best part of this section is a few verses later in Exodus 36:5, which states, “And they spake unto Moses, saying, The people bring much more than enough for the service of the work, which the LORD commanded to make.”

Moses had to tell the people to stop bringing and giving because they had more than enough! How wonderful would it be to hear that announcement at the 2027 business meeting?

My prayer for 2026 is that God would speak to each heart in the church to give and that we would have more than we need for all God has planned for this year. I hope the church will join me in this prayer about what we can give to the Lord this year. May we have too many volunteers and more than enough resources in 2026!

Heavenly Father, please give me a heart for giving and serving this year. Make me a willing and joyful participant in your plan for the church. Provide for us in great and mighty ways that we may glorify you in the community. In Jesus name, Amen.

Mike Belfiore
Q: Share a little about your family and background:
A: My wife, Diane, and I are from Massachusetts. We moved to Lynchburg in 2022 with our son, Noah. Our youngest son was already living here and attending Liberty University for biblical studies. He has since left Liberty in order to join the workforce to support himself and his wife Angelique. We have another son, Josh, who is in the Air Force and is currently serving in Arkansas along with his wife Krisanne. They have a 4-year-old daughter and a 1-year-old son. Our daughter Anastasia lives in Massachusetts with her husband Zach. Our oldest child is Elyse. She also lives in Massachusetts with her son Elijah.
Q: How did you come to know Christ?
A: When I was in high school, I borrowed a Bible from the library and read through it. At that time, I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior. However, there were no Christians in my life, so I didn’t quite get the importance of what I had done. It wasn’t until I was about 28 years old that I decided to find a church. I had found a church that I soon realized would only be temporary, and months later I settled at a church called New Colony Baptist Church. This is where my wife and I and our children were baptized.
Q: What brought you to this church?
A: I was a deacon at 7 Hills Community Church when the merger happened. At that time, I had a decision to make, and I chose to make my new church home Bethel Baptist Church in Amherst.
Q: Who has been the biggest spiritual influence in your life?
A: One of the men I’ve looked up to in my journey is an old friend, Dino Crognale. He is a lifetime missionary in Kenya where he and his wife are medical doctors and where they have raised their 3 children.
Q: What motivated you to serve as a deacon?
A: When I was a member at New Colony, Paul, the head of the Deacons, asked me if I would take on that role. I viewed Paul as a pinnacle of the church at that time and felt God must have led him to ask me to become a deacon.
Q: What is something people might be surprised to learn about you?
A: Drawing is a particular passion of mine, and I intend to pursue artwork when I am able to retire from full-time work.

A: I went to a church service at Centerville Baptist. A visiting pastor was doing the service that night, Pastor Pain. That was the night I got saved.

AUGUST                                                                    2025

MISSIONARY UPDATE
If you were not in church on August 17th, you missed an amazing sermon from missionary, Dexter Kirby! It was a blessing to see Dexter, Jackelle, and their two daughters after many years in which they have been serving in the Caribbean Island of St. Vincent. The Kirby's have a growing preschool ministry for infants to five-year-olds, and they are striving toward building a Christian grade school soon after they finish furlough. Their passion for leading young lives to Christ is obvious. Kirby states that Christian education "is about informing, conforming, and transforming to the character of Christ." Please continue to support their ministry financially and in prayer to bring Christian education to this area.
